Blue Sky Retreat Center | El Nogal Nature Trail right outside of Blue Sky, Taos, NM
Today my mom, my 8-year-old daughter and I walked from Blue Sky Retreat to the El Nogal Nature Trail #181.  It was an easy and flat 1-mile hike along-side a stream, under the shades of luscious green trees.  It was a cloudy day and the air smelled of rain.  We enjoyed our leisurely walk, laughing and connecting, the three generations of women in our family.

El Nogal Nature Trail right outside of Blue Sky, Taos, NM

Today my mom, my 8-year-old daughter and I walked from Blue Sky Retreat to the El Nogal Nature Trail #181.  It was an easy and flat 1-mile hike along-side a stream, under the shades of luscious green trees.  It was a cloudy day and the air smelled of rain.  We enjoyed our leisurely walk, laughing and connecting, the three generations of women in our family.

We stopped a few times to watch the stream, the flora and fauna that lives in the water, the rocks and the occasional fresh water clams.  My daughter wanted to play in the water and my mother and I delighted in watching her enjoy the outdoors remembering how care-free and joyous we all were as children.  We sat down on the big rocks at the abandoned fire place that someone has built breathing in and luxuriating in the fresh mountain air.

Several hikers passed us by with their dogs.  I wished we had brought our Goldendoodle, Dante, with us.

I feel connected to God every time I am outdoors, just like today on this easy and feel-good hike.  I was moved by this magic moment: fresh mountain air, the beauty of Mother Nature, and being with my Mother and my daughter and it was in our backyard, just a few hundred meters away from Blue Sky.

Make sure to go on this easy 1 hour hike when you come to Blue Sky Retreat at San Geronimo Lodge in Taos, NM.  You can even make it your morning run.  You can start your day in this delightful way, just before a hearty, made-from-scratch, full of TLC breakfast prepared by my Mom.  What a wonderful way to start the day!

More info about El Nogal Nature Trail #181: accessed .25 mile up the South Boundary Trail, this comparatively flat trail heads to the east and gentry contours above the Rio de Don Fernando on the south side, eventually reaching the spring at La Vinateria.  From Blue Sky Retreat, head east from our side parking lot down Witt Rd, pass the juncture of 585 Paseo del Canon and 64, up hwy 64 about 500 meters.  You will see a sign Kit Carson National Forrest.  There is a parking lot on your right and the Trail starts from the parking lot.
